“White Knight” Bruce Gordon has more on his plate than just the locking down of a deal that could see him with a controlling interest in the St George Illawarra Dragons.
The decision by the Nine Network to partner with a different non-metro network could see WIN TV could profits drop by as much as 30%.
Ouch, that’s a sizeable hole when you are talking cash flow from you cash cow. Already job juts across the network are starting to pinch. (see below)
Back in the day, St George would offer money to bail out someone in crisis, like they did with Cronulla Sharks. Too bad Saints leagues couldn’t help out Bruce Gordon, rather than the other way around.
BREAKING: Poor ratings and a drop in commercial advertising has forced the WIN network to slash jobs at some of its regional bureaus including Toowoomba. One veteran reporter at the Toowoomba bureau and a senior camera operator are believed to have been made redundant this morning as the network struggles to maintain its holding in regional television markets.
A source close to the situation contacted The Chronicle this morning concerned about the impact it would have on regional news broadcasts.
They said ratings had been poor across the network since the switch to Southern Cross Austereo on July 1 following the falling out between WIN and Nine earlier this year.
News production in the north Queensland bureaus of Townsville and Cairns are also believed to have been impacted.
WIN Toowoomba has been contacted for comment.
