The Natives Get Restless

The Agtit-Prop boys have been busy ramping up the rhetoric.

F** Me and Fire up the Gestetner!!

No-one has yet to publicly introduce themselves, announced they would run for office or write anything longer 120 characters. Except this handbill length missive:-

Statement

The #SaveOurSaints movement feels it is appropriate at this time to make a statement regarding our intentions and our purpose for being. It is important that people properly understand what we are trying to achieve and the reasons why.

Our genesis rests in the belief that the board governing our club is no longer fit to govern the St George Illawarra Dragons. The current lack of success, and the steep decline in the health and performance of our club is a symptom of catastrophic failure in governance. As such, we desire the opportunity to hold the board members accountable for their performance.

Unfortunately, we are unable to do this for the following reasons:

• Red V members do not have voting rights to elect the joint venture board;

• The process of election for the board requires admission onto the St George Leagues Club / Illawarra Steelers Leagues Club as a director, which then allows access to be on the Rugby League Football Club boards (respectively). It is only at this point that access to the joint venture board can be challenged;

• Both leagues clubs have prevented new members from holding full voting rights until they accrue three years of membership, thereby inhibiting any challenge to elections;

• Each of the boards have self-appointed new members that have close connections with the existing board members; essentially keeping power centralized and preventing positive change;

• In addition and despite comments made in the media otherwise, the board or its representatives are not held accountable by the NRL as they have no constitutional or legal ability to do so;

• This means the governance and election process for the St George IllawarraDragons joint venture is one in name only and more closely parallels a clandestine oligarchy.

As a movement, we are not about ‘Oust Doust’. Rather, we are seeking a complete and total reform of the governance system in place for the St George Illawarra joint venture board to allow appropriate democratic process to be implemented.

This reform would permit supporters to sign up to become voting members and allow their votes to count in the selection of board members for the club. This would fulfil our desire to see the club adhere to Corporate Government Principles in accordance with current industry best practice.

We believe our movement is critical. We believe in having the right governance in place for our club. We believe it is time to #SaveOurSaints.
